I just finished reading The Bonfire of the Vanities, a book with over 650 pages. I can’t remember reading a book of that length in a very long time (well, except for a textbook, but that’s not the same thing). It was a pretty good story, but I honestly thought that it was never going to end. I got about 400 pages into it, and because it was good—but not great—I was going to stop reading it. But then, thinking about the time that I had already invested, I decided to see it through to the end.
The weather is very strange today. It goes from torrential downpour, to sun, and then back to rain. Interspersed with the rain are random flakes of snow—the first that I’ve seen since I’ve been here, thank goodness (not a fan of the snow).
The wind is fierce, as usual. I’ve never had my umbrella turn inside-out before, but it happened about four times yesterday when I was walking to the university. Truthfully, it’s probably never happened to me because normally I don’t keep up with an umbrella long enough for it to become weakened by the wind. Since it rains so much here, I almost never leave the building without the umbrella in my shoulder bag, unless there is nary a dark cloud in a faultless blue sky. And even then I usually care it with me anyway. Funny how it’s easier to keep up with when it gets such constant use.
The nice thing about the rain is that I’ve seen more rainbows here than ever before in my life.

See, I am such a terrible reader that I would read until the moment I got 100% bored, go 10 pages from the book’s end, and read that. THEN I would decide if I should continue or not. Terrible!
