PROCRASTINATION IS THE DEVIL

I got an email last week about signing up to attend a local screening of the documentary An Inconvenient Truth. It sounded like fun. Various people had signed up to host “house parties” and play the film, and all of the house parties were happening at the same time on Saturday night. I thought it sounded like a nice way to see a movie that I’d heard about and wanted to see, and possibly meet some new people at the same time.

So, la-la-la, I went to my computer on Saturday morning to look up the nearest locations. There were quite a few (which I expected, since I was searching in the DC metro area), but they were all full. There were a few parties with open spaces being held in Maryland, but the closest one was about 20 miles away and I didn’t want to go that far. I hadn’t signed up in advance like everyone else, so I missed out—that’s what I get for waiting until the last minute.

I ended up going online to see if the local Blockbuster had the movie in stock, which they did. But instead of renting it from the store, I signed up for a free 1-month trial of their online rental service instead.

Although I missed seeing this particular film in a social atmosphere, at least it spurred me into action—there are a number of documentaries that I’ve been wanting to see. (Out of the 21 movies that I picked for my Blockbuster queue, 13 of them are documentaries.)

Which ones are they?

1) An Inconvenient Truth
2) Wordplay
3) Devil’s Playground
4) Go Further
5) Control Room
6) Outfoxed: Rupert Murdoch’s War on Journalism
7) Word Wars
8) Mad Hot Ballroom
9) March of the Penguins
10) Who Killed the Electric Car?
11) Cinemania
12) To Be and To Have
13) Fed Up! Genetic Engineering, Industrial Agriculture and Sustainable Alternatives

  1. I love, love documentaries too! You have got to give me some recommendations after your screening. Dying to see Jesus Camp.

  3. If you’re into documentaries, specifically political and historical, check out The Fog of War. It’s relevant, with the Iraq thing now and it’s the most beautifully filmed documentary ever.
