WHEN FRIENDS COME TO VISIT

Two of my girlfriends from Richmond came to see me on Saturday, and the weather report—the one that said it was going to rain all day—was wrong. It didn’t start raining until late afternoon, and it was warm enough that we all went jacket-free. We were able to go to the National Zoo (which was originally our Plan B, since we thought we’d be rained-out), and we spent over three hours there. We had lunch at one of the outdoor eating areas, which, in the midst of all the burgers, hot dogs, and French fries, happened to be a vegan-friendly environment: I had a Boca burger and a cup of applesauce.

Next we drove to Old Town Alexandria and stopped in at a few shops, and on the way back to my apartment we saw a guy peddling down the sidewalk on a unicycle. What balance! What stamina!

I took a picture of my friends when they first arrived at my apartment, and one of them asked, “Is this going to end up on the internet?” How very well they know me. (But if she’d said, “Don’t put this on the internet!” of course I wouldn’t have.)

  2. Glad you got a chance to hit the zoo. I love the zoo although I hear they just shipped off their last giraffe. That made me sad.

  5. How cool that you can eat vegan at the zoo! I’m beginning to think that it is physically impossible to have a vegan meal in Switzerland outside of my own home.

Also, I miss Boca Burgers. Glad you had fun with your friends!

  6. Jul,
I think the cashier doesn’t get those requests for Boca burgers very often. When I ordered, she had to yell into the kitchen behind her, “I need a Boca burger!” Like it wasn’t something she could just turn around and pick up the steam-table behind her. Probably a good thing. :)

  10. My friends and co-workers are the same way with me. They always say ‘Is this going on the blog?’ Luckily for me, they’re okay with me embarassing them: http://www.sournsweet.com/?p=902
