A crazy lunatic hit my car when I was driving home from work tonight. I was literally one block from my apartment. I was making my merry way down the road (not stopped at a stoplight), going the speed limit, when this person zoomed up behind me and smashed into the back of my car. Screeching of tires ensued. I spun around, hit the curb, couldn’t stop because my brakes failed, went a hundred feet or so down the road and bounced off a tree. That’s when I remembered to pull my emergency brake. I couldn’t really think clearly at the time, I guess.
The cop must have been following the person who hit me, because as soon as I got out of the car I saw his lights. The driver had already run off. Yes, that’s right—he abandoned his car in the middle of the road and left on foot. Excitement, I tell you.
I was at the scene for about half an hour. They got my info; I have a case number; my car has been towed. I walked home since it was so close. I think I’m okay, but I have a feeling I’m going to be sore. More details to follow.
(**Update, 2:15pm: I responded to some of your questions in the comments section. I’ll have a longer post tomorrow.)

I’m glad you are ok! You said he fled on foot, but did they catch him since the cop was right there?
OMG! I’m sorry to hear you got hit by a crazy person. I’m glad you’re OK. Be sure if you experience any headaches or pain in your neck, to go to the hospital…
You are feeling alright? no injuries right?
Hoo!
Maybe you’ll read in the WaPo that the guy was wanted for robbing six banks. Maybe the reason he hit you is that he was already running from the police.
Hoo!
Oh Zandria, I hope you are feeling alright? I hate the shock that comes after a car accident (however minor or severe it is), it’s worse than the actual accident itself. How are you? Is your car covered? =X Thinking of you. xo
Jesus, that sounds pretty bad!
Are you ok?
I am so glad you are ok. I just read your email at work and came to the Mac to check your site. I’m here if you need anything. I can’t belive that crazy guy!!!! Love you
I glad you’re ok after all that!! Sounds like you will be sore, sis. Let me know if I can help you do anything..like if you need us to come up there or whatever it is.
oh my goodness! That’s crazy. And right after your just got your car fixed too
I hope you’re doing alright. Definitely take extra special care of yourself and make sure there aren’t any hidden injuries.
Oh my gosh, I hope you are okay. How scary.
It makes me mad when other drivers have no respect for the lives of others.
Oh honey, i’m so sorry. But i’m very happy you were not hurt!! Sounds like the driver who hit you was already running from the police…you might end up on a ‘Cops’ show!
Seriously, hate to see it happen to you, but cars are replaceable.
Love U

I am so glad to hear you are okay!!! What a crazy driver, I hope they catch him. Please let me know if you need anything.
Oh, wow, that is scary. I’m glad to hear that you’re okay, though. It did make me smile to read: “That’s when I remembered to pull my emergency brake. I couldn’t really think clearly at the time, I guess.”
Who can blame you?
ack! i’m glad you are (at least mostly) ok!! that guy must have been going seriously fast to have caused such a bad accident. you are lucky you didn’t get seriously hurt.
your poor car after it just got fixed!
oh no! i’m glad you’re OK at least, and that the cop was there to take swift action.
Everyone: Thanks so much for all your nice comments. I’m feeling fine physically. I have to deal with the rental-car thing and sign some papers at the collision shop before I go to work this afternoon. I’ll have more details soon.
Oh no, Zandria, I am so sorry!
I am glad you are OK and I hope the police find that guy quickly. Does you insurance company pay for your car repair? (I know you love that car)
Oh my gosh I am so sorry! That sucks so much…was the dude drunk? Let me know if I can do anything to help, okay?
Glad you’re okay!!
Zandria-
I hope you are feeling okay.
What a mess and it all creates a bunch of paperwork and phone calls too.
At least it is blog material-isn’t everything?
DefenseEngineer: No, as far as I know they haven’t caught him yet. I’ll be keeping track of that, though.
Nadine: My back is a little stiff today, but other than that I feel all right. Just tired from not a lot of sleep last night.
Barry: That is entirely possible! I wouldn’t be surprised.
Alynda: Yes, my car is covered. I don’t think the other guy had coverage, but my insurance company will handle my repairs.
Leah: I know…I just paid money to get my car fixed less than two weeks ago. I think I should get compensated for that!
Auntie Annie: Cars are replaceable, but I am still entirely bummed. I don’t know yet if my car is fixable, but if not I’m not looking forward to searching for a new one.
Janet: Not sure if he was drunk. And if he’s apprehended after the fact, they’ll never know.
Tori: I could have done without this kind of blog material, but you’re right — everything is an adventure.
My god! I’m so sorry! Even when an accident is minor–even when the car and people are barely damaged–it’s still something that shakes you, disorients you, sometimes for days on end. And your accident sounds not-minor. So I’m sure it has twirled you around. I hope you’re doing OK and are calming and treating yourself well…my recommendations are bubble baths, chocolate, and red wine. And this warrants taking a day off work to regroup, I think.
P.S. A couple months ago, someone hit my car (when my sister was driving it) and did a bunch of damage, also just a couple weeks after I’d had a bunch of work done on it. So I know how much frustration that kind of ironic timing adds to the accident itself. Ugh. Again, I say–Indulge. Chocolate. Red wine.
Good grief! That’s one heck of a way to add some excitement to your life. Glad that ou are ok. I hope they get the guy.
Awwww that is horrible news hon!! I’m sorry to hear that…. I’ll give you a call when I get back in town.. Hang in there sweetie!!
i always want to remind you kids to “watch out” everyday. let me know of “anything” you need from me. i’m waiting. loveu…dad
I am so gr8ful you were physically fit to get out on your own!!! OMG, say, I have a 2002 convertible corvette you can use………you’ll have to come to Vegas to get it tho…..HAHAHAHA…Love you Zan, let us know if you need our help!!!
Wow! I’m so sorry to hear what happened to you but so very glad that you’re okay.
Sending good thoughts your way. Sorry to hear about the accident but I’m glad you’re OK.
