My first day at the new job went well yesterday, but it was also a bit overwhelming. New positions tend to be like that for a while, until expectations become clear and you’re given the information you need to do your job. One good thing is that I’m going through this process with two other people who were hired in the same department, so I don’t feel like all the attention is on me. This week is a combination of meeting people, training, and hands-on learning.
The overwhelming part comes from being told about the goals for our department and what our individual roles will be. A lot of the tasks are things I haven’t done before, but I know they wouldn’t have hired me if they didn’t think I could do them. And I know I can, which is why I’m not stressing about it. It’s just going to take some getting used to.
Everyone I’ve met so far has been nice, and I have a feeling I’m really going to like my director and fellow team members. I’m looking forward to working with people who are so dedicated to what they do.

I’m sure you’ll do a great job. It’s good to challenge yourself and learn new things.
Good update Zan! Sounds like the new job has potential to keep your attention
Tell us the juicy stuff, hows the cafe
I am glad to hear your first day went well! It sounds like you will be busy and lots of challenges lie ahead of you. I know you’ll do fine:)
Good luck! I’m sure you’ll settle in there. I’m just finally getting a bit more settled here (going into week 4). So great though that you have so many others who started with you at the same time… very helpful!
Yay! Glad to hear everything went well and working with people you like is definitely a plus.
Sounds exciting. Good luck!
Sounds great!
You know I started a new job 2 months ago, and I have to tell you: it was only very recently that I stopped feeling dumb. It is an unpleasant but normal stage.
Glad the first day went well. I’ve been at my job for a little over 7 years and I dread if I had to go find another one. I don’t ever plan to leave this one until I retire. It’s easy and non-demanding most of the time. I know what I’m doing and it works well for me.
I’m thinking the first two weeks will be overwhelming, and you will forget or not quite “get” 90% of the things, but over time, you will become an indespensible genius and they will cry when you leave one day.
Just think…you already had your first day so you made it through one of the hardest parts. Hang in there and learn well
Zandria, I am glad to hear things went well on your first day! It’s always a little nervewracking having to start over, but it sounds like you have the right attitude and I’m sure this will turn out to be a good move for you.
Awesome! I am glad you found a place you like!
Congrats on the new gig. I’m sure you’ll kick ass!
