It seems fitting to start Inspiration Month with my monthly 101 Things update. This list has motivated me, inspired me to try new things, and updating it every month has the benefit of holding me accountable for following through.
4. Make a donation to a worthy cause
I had heard good things about an organization called Nothing But Nets, so I decided to donate to them; they deliver insecticide-treated bed nets to Africa. According to their website, “Studies show that use of insecticide-treated bed nets can reduce transmission [of malaria] as much as 90% in areas with high coverage rates.”
80. Sit in a bookstore for at least half an hour, by myself
I did this when I went on an overnight visit to Richmond.
19. Smile at everyone I see for an entire day
Some people got big smiles; others got closed-lip smiles. I was at work the day I did this, so I didn’t keep smiling at people on multiple occasions if I had to see/pass by them multiple times. And because I didn’t want people to wonder why I was being overly friendly, I mostly kept my eyes averted on the Metro so as not to make eye contact.
9. Give a sincere compliment to 1 person a day for 5 days (must be a different person each time)
I told…
…a female co-worker that I liked her skirt.
…a male co-worker that his new haircut looks nice.
…a female sitting next to me on the metro that I liked her shirt.
…a female blogger that she had written a really great post.
…a hot guy (no, he’s not a stranger) that he has a nice…bum.

i know i’m not making the rules, but i think you cheated on the smile one.
I couldn’t smile at EVERYONE now, could I? And yes, I DO make the rules!
I think the smile thing counts. That’s a hard thing for some people and for everyone on some rough days.
Hi! I came over from NaBloPoMo. I’m challenging myself to comment on as many blogs as possible this month. What a great idea! Your list looks both daunting and inspiring!
Greetings from a fellow blogger in NaBloPoMo. How about if I pay you a compliment to go along with the nice things you’ve said about your colleagues today? I love the look of your blogpage and particularly like that it’s a “Z” page. In addition to posting daily on my own blog, I am posting a comment on someone else’s blog. I’m beginning at the end of the alphabet; I did the same thing last year. Stop by The Testosterone Zone and say hi.
I do the smile thing all the time. A friend of mine and I started it one night when we were out at a party and not in the best moods. We found out that our moods turned around in a jiffy, and despite a couple of peculiar looks, most people respond with a great big smile too. But I live in Colorado where pretty much everyone is friendly.
