Kristy's posts were hilarious indeed!

When I moved to Utrecht I figured I'd find a new gym in one day and boy was I wrong. In my previous town I went to a gym with the most relaxed atmosphere, no fancy outfits or too many muscles admiring themselves and some really nice and knowledgeable staff.

The first gym i tried in Utrecht? Pfff, let's just say that if it had been a speed date I had been out after 1 minute. Now I couldn't since I was strapped to some machine. My frustration went out here: http://sympathiquemartini.blogspot.com/2007/09/gym-rant.html

We all look for different things in a gym I guess and finding the right match takes some time.

Luckily my new one is lovely and right across from my work.

I think it's really important to look at what features your gym has. When I belonged to a gym near my old job it offered unlimited classes for free. I was way into spinning (ugh, hurts so bad) and body pump... even abs classes... dance class. I did it all.

Now I go to a super nice gym near my house (it's brand new, too!) and it's only 30 bucks a month, but it offers NO classes... so i never go. It sucks.

I mostly loathe the gym, but I know we signed up prematurely. We are getting back into it, but it's tedious, at best. I have to perpetually remind myself to be patient. Thanks for this; it's always good to read that I'm not alone in the dragging and self-nagging.

Whatever your coworker was considering paying just made me feel a lot better about what I pay to work out. Phew! (But seriously, this post is going to be very helpful for a lot of people!)

I chose my gym based solely on proximity. But the beauty of living in Chile is that I really have no choices (about a lot of things, not just gyms). ANd yes, that was sarcastic. There are a precious few major chains of gyms here. I can think of the one I go to, and Curves for women. I don't like Chilean women and they don't like me so I think I'll stand clear of a an environment like that. So my gym was the only other option. Since they KNOW that they're the only other option, they don't really worry about pesky little things like customer service. Oh well, it's cheap, I shouldn't be complaining.

Good post and thanks for the mention =) I've also heard people choose gyms based on ehm locale and proximity to attractive businessmen. I am curious enough to see if the theory is accurate that I'm thinking to try a yoga class one morning closer to the Financial District, just to make an educated assessment. Haha.
