ALEXANDRIA IS AMERICA’S MOST ROMANTIC CITY

Based on sales data of romance novels, relationship and sex books from Amazon.com, which city is the most romantic in America?

Yes, that’s right: Alexandria, VA

Amazon says that Virginia really is for lovers – we have three cities in their “Top 20 Most Romantic Cities” list (Arlington is #9, and Richmond is #19). Washington, DC makes the list as well, at #11.

I’ve never bought a romance novel, relationship or sex book from Amazon.com, but now I kind of want to, just to help Alexandria retain her “most romantic” standing.

  1. If you’re going to buy a sex book, I recommend “the guide to getting it on.” excellent reference. and my roommate’s friends pull it off the shelf pretty much any time they come over.

or you could just indulge yourself in a nice little bodice ripper ;-)

  2. Well, I don’t know if the number of romance novels consumed in a city is any indicator of how romantic a place is, but congratulations to Alexandria anyway! Actually, now that I think about it, Alexandria is a pretty small place (compared to say, LA or NY) to be buying that many sex books. Pretty impressive!

  3. hmmm…I don’t think of “relationship books” as sexy as much as self-help, no? I mean, self help is great and all, but hardly romantic!

  4. So weird. I don’t live that far away from Alexandria…and I’ve never thought of it (or DC for that matter) as romantic.

  5. My brother-in-law lives in Arlington, VA, but can’t seem to find a good date. Perhaps I’ll tell him to move to Alexandria!! LOL!

  6. LOL Funny results. My first thought was actually the opposite.

High sales of romance novels may actually indicate a lack of romance in daily life.

Or I may be entirely wrong and they are used as inspiration? ;-)
