I've been tagged with the "Dancing Queen" nickname as well, but very rarely dance any more. I was actually thinking about trying belly dancing the other day...now I know it's (of course!) much harder than it looks!

Maybe I should buy one of those at-home videos. That way I can look like a goober in the comfort of my own home. Thanks for sharing because you know I was definitely curious about your experience with belly dancing!

I learned a lot reading your post. I can tell I've improved since I started the class. But while I'm there I feel like it's really difficult. Part of it is muscle fatigue. I do know that I'm using muscles that I would never use otherwise. I'm taking the class just because it sounded like fun and a different way to exercise. It will be interesting to see my progress. Thanks for including me in your post.

Hi Zandria,
I'm glad you tried bellydancing. I'm surprised that your teacher taught the belly roll to you so soon! Our waited until near the end of class and said that it's more of a level 2 skill. One tip she did give was try doing it when laying down, with your hands laying down on those muscles.

I would also suggest to the teacher that she calls out the moves, we've found that to be very helpful! it's almost like Simon Says

My teacher said the same thing about how we always suck in so much that its difficult for a lot of women to push out their stomachs!

The stronger your abs and core get, the easier it becomes to do the belly roles. I like isolating the muscles because it really works muscles I didn't even know I had. And even if you finish the course and decide it wasn't for you, at least you tried it! The tricky part, I think, is finding something that IS right for you.

Like everything in life, you have to decide if the juice is worth the squeeze. If you think the only reason you aren't enjoying it is because you're not good at it, then keep going. But if you don't think you would enjoy it if you got good at it, then why bother.

See, I don't ski because I HATE cold weather. So I don't see the point of learning to ski since it takes work to get good at it, and I know there a million things I'd rather do than be outside in the cold.
