Random Friday, Ver. 71

1) Halloween Fun!

I’m going to a costume party tonight at the Hard Rock Cafe in DC. I’ll be with my friends Zipcode (we thought we should break out our awesome 80s costumes a second time, so the hot pink minidress will have another go) and Tripp.

(Incidentally, I received an email from Tripp earlier this week, after he read the post in which I mentioned his presence in my “minidress in Old Town” escapade. In his words: “Have you noticed that almost every time my name is mentioned in your blog you are doing something ‘out of the norm’? Does that say something about me?” My answer: YES, OF COURSE IT DOES.)

Because, let’s see…a quick search in my blog archives yields the following examples of just some of my interactions with Crazy Tripp:

He thinks Utilikilts are cool (#4 in the list).
He and I have inappropriate conversations (#3 in the list).
We have been known to take interesting pictures in public.

2) Interesting

Some mothers might have looked at my Halloween costume and said, “What in the world were you wearing?” But after seeing the post, my mother told me, “I’m so glad you had a good time!”

3) Kissy-kissy…

Doug posted a list of the 12 Best Places to Make Out in DC. But you know what’s sad? The only places I’ve been to — out of the twelve on his list — are the Tidal Basin and the Gem Room at the Smithsonian Natural History Museum. (I’ve been to the Kennedy Center to see a dance performance, but I haven’t seen the suggested view from the roof deck.)

I think some additional DC sightseeing might be in order! (Perhaps with a hot guy, so I’ll be able to tell if these locations really are the best places to make out in DC?)

This post was later followed up with the 12 Worst Places to Make Out in DC. (I think this guy has been kinda busy in this fine city!)

4) “Where’s your coat?”

An older lady at work asked me that question earlier this week when she saw me heading out the door to go home. The temps were in the low 50s, it was windy…and I was wearing a thin purple hoodie. I warm up easily, people! If I know I’m going to be walking fast, I don’t like to be weighed down with a big jacket — I’ll just end up leaving it unzipped, or taking it off completely and carrying it. My hoodie has gotten a lot of use over the past 8 years or so that I’ve owned it — I’ll wear it to work, I’ll wear it to do laundry, I’ll wear it when I sit on the couch at home.

I took this photo Wednesday night when I realized that as I was writing these very words, I was wearing the hoodie! (Yes, that’s right. I sometimes prepare these random tidbits in advance. What a time saver!)

On the couch

5) Another view of what I look like when I’m blogging

My friend Laurie took some photos at BlogHer DC earlier this month, and one of them was of me, blogging. I “borrowed” it from her BlogHer DC 2008 set on Flickr. Thanks, Laurie!

(The white saucer beside my laptop? Gummy bears. They’re not something I ever buy, but it was one of the afternoon snacks offered at the conference.)

  5. I feel like that old lady. I’m amazed at how many bare legs are still around and I’m always just wondering, “aren’t you cold?!”. But, everyone has different body temperatures!

    Have fun at the party!

  6. Sagan: It actually wasn’t that cold last weekend — either that, or I just wasn’t outside for very long. (Or maybe the alcohol helped warm me up?) :)

    thanks for the mention!

  13. Hey Zan!

So it’s been a while since I last commented, but I read every day, promise! First, Happy Halloween, and I hope you have a great time at the Hard Rock. One of my friends from school is actually going to that party, so I can’t wait till I hear all about it from both of you – and your costume is super cute :) Secondly, I have a blog but keep it private, so I know your blog will reach more people with this info – it’s a youtube video from a lot of celebs about voting. If you’d like (and please don’t feel obligated!) here’s the site if you want to mention it, otherwise, just enjoy it for yourself! I think it’d be a good way (and it’s completely unbiased) to get people out there to vote!

Hope you have a great weekend!

  14. I think it’s sweet she cared enough to tell you to put your coat on. Is she a mom? Ever since I’ve become a mom I’ve found myself randomly mothering people. Sometimes they’re even older than I am!

    I love gummy bears…
