Take Me Away

The feeling hit me hard a few days ago. You know, the “I need to go somewhere” feeling. I’ve had it in my mind for several months that I need to plan a trip, but it wasn’t at the forefront. Now it is. Now, suddenly, it seems imperative that I go. I need to make a decision and start putting it together.

(When I say “It’s time to take a trip,” what I really mean is “It’s time to go outside the U.S.” I haven’t been outside the country since I got back from Amsterdam at the end of December 2004. I just passed the four-year mark! This is completely unacceptable!)

I have almost two weeks of vacation time left over from 2008 that I didn’t use, on top of the three weeks I’ll be accruing this year. (I tend not to take random days off here and there. I’d rather save them up and go somewhere…away.)

I did take three trips last year where I traveled via airplane (Tampa, San Francisco, and Las Vegas), but all of them included a weekend and I only had to take a few days off from work each time.

Now, look. I know. Everybody wants a freakin’ vacation! It’s January! The skies are dismal and the temps are low. I get it. But still, I’m going somewhere. I have a few places in mind, but I haven’t decided anything for certain yet. At this point I don’t know if I’ll be traveling alone, or with someone else, or meeting someone once I reach my destination. But it will happen.

  3. I love to travel and I’ve missed being able to do so over the past two years as frequently as I used to. I’ve already got 2 trips planned for this year and thats in the first 6months…I’m so excited.

Can’t wait to hear where you decide to go!

  10. If you come to London, I’ll tell you of all the wonderful places there are to go to and see for free. Exchange rate should be really good for you, so it won’t be as expensive! It’s about 30 degrees right now though.

  11. Ooh what places are you thinking about? I like the idea of saving vacation days too- would way rather go away on a trip somewhere than just take a day off randomly here and there.

    That travel bug is itching!

  12. Can’t wait to hear where you have planned. :) Or, you could just come to sunny and warm Arizona for the weekend.

BTW, I’ve been working on my 101 things list and it’s all your fault!

  14. I do the same thing. It’s so much nicer not to think about work for a longer amount of time.

  15. Wow, has it really been over 4 years that I’ve been reading your blog?
Make a world tour. Now is the best time, since you don’t have many things holding you back at home.

  19. Oh, wow! You are definitely due for a trip abroad. One can only take so much of the US at one time. :) Once you’ve been abroad, that is. I think we are going to try Bologna this summer. Then, of course, there’s Brazil. ;)

  20. Girl, I so feel you. I NEED to go somewhere. Or else my brain and body will explode. That’s awesome that they let you roll over your 2008 vacay days. Most companies don’t. I’ve decided to go to Costa Rica this year. Europe or Asia would be fun, but I really just want to lay down somewhere with a drink and just chill.

  21. Dear Zandria. You should go to Turkey! I hear it’s amazing.

But yeah, I totally know what it’s like to have itchy feet, that’s why we moved overseas in the first place!

  22. Deciding where is probably the hardest, but after that it gets fun. Let us know when you decide where you’re going!
