1) A weekend visitor!
Last March my friend Leah came for a visit and we crossed off four goals from my 101 Things list. She’s coming back for another visit this weekend, so we’ll be hanging out tomorrow and she’ll spend the night. She’s volunteered once again to help me cross off some things from my list (and I’m very appreciative that she’s always so gung-ho about helping me out).
2) Totally the wrong term
I’ve been at a so-called work “retreat” since Wednesday (in the boonies of Virginia, about 70 miles from DC), returning home today. Like I said on Twitter a few days ago, I kind of resent that my workplace refers to it as a retreat — they make it sound a lot more relaxing than it actually is. It’s basically a lot of workshops and people talking about stuff that I’m not all that interested in. They do feed us and give us alcohol in the evenings, but it’s still a long day.
3) Gotta love friends
My friend Dana sent me this photo of herself with an umbrella. You see, the umbrella looks like a duck, and it reminded her of how I made fun of duck umbrellas just last week.
4) Totally not going
Preparations for the Presidential inauguration next Tuesday have been on the local news pretty much nonstop for the past few weeks. I have the day off (my workplace is located in DC and it’s going to be pretty much impossible to reach that area on Tuesday), and I have Monday off for the Martin Luther King holiday, so it’ll be nice to have an extended weekend. Although some people think I’m lucky to live so close to the action, at this point I have no plans to stand outside for hours (in the freezing cold) on the off-chance that I’ll be able to see anything interesting. If I lived in DC and could walk there, I probably would. But trying to Metro in from Virginia? It’s just not high on my list of fun things to do.
Happy weekend, everyone!

they do have some buses leaving from Alexandria that are going straight into DC, running every ten minutes. yes, i am crazy and I have been talked into going in on Tuesday, but we’re just busing and not metro-ing. i’m not sure that any of the bus routes are that entirely close to Old Town, but if you’re tempted, it’s something to look into.
Oh I don’t envy you at all with the elections coming up…yay for a long weekend thought! Have a good one!

Hey I live in DC and I’m not going either. It will be barely above freezing and you’ll be outside for hours. If, by chance, it’s warm that day I’ll do it, but at this point home is where my butt is.
I’m going to try and make it into the city. i might have some tickets waiting for me on monday..
If I lived in DC this week I’d rent out my apartment on craigs list and book a flight to Mexico for the week.
i’m not going anywhere near downtown on tuesday and i’m getting a bit freaked out just at the prospect of being in takoma park.
Definitely understand your thinking on not wanting to stand outside in the cold. And that duck umbrella made me giggle!
I think this weekend I might get started on thinking about things to go on a 101 things to do list… it’s such a good idea but will require lots of thought!
I hope y’all have fun this weekend! I look forward to seeing what you cross off your list!
Greetings from the UK!
I recently discovered your blog and I have started my own 101 list. I definitely look forward to reading more about your achievements. Have a great weekend.
I’m sitting right here in FL – no way you’re catching me in/around DC for the inauguration!
oy good luck with all the busyness in dc this weekend. and seriously, what a cool friend to help you knock off things off your list. love it.
happy weekend!
That is soooo not a good picture of me, but I love it. I still can’t believe I ran across that umbrella. lol Enjoy your long weekend!!!
I live at the Convention Center… within walking distance… and I will STILL be curled up on my couch at home, watching the big screen. You’re making the right choice! It’s going to be effing MAYHEM.
the boonies in VA….you must have been out near me?! :)
I agree, I think it’s crazy that people want to stand outside in this cold on Tuesday. Much better to view it from the warmth and coziness of my sofa!
