1) Cool!
I’ve met Seattle police chief Gil Kerlikowske on a number on occasions — he’s a longtime member/supporter of the children’s advocacy nonprofit organization that I work for. President Obama just nominated him to be America’s new “Drug Czar” (Director of the Office of National Drug Control Policy). He’s going to be in our office today, having lunch with our staff, and I must say my workplace seems just a little bit cooler to me now that I know we have such an esteemed member.
2) Silly!
Last night I was called “awesome” by some of my co-workers. We were at a bar not far from our workplace for happy hour. We’d all had a round of drinks, and I was going back for my second. By that time there was already a crowd around the bar, and one of the girls in my group said that she’d probably hover near the far corner and hope one of the bartenders noticed her.
“Screw that!” I said. “All you have to do is go over there and stick your chest over the bar. That’ll get their attention. Watch this.”
I strode confidently over to the bar. As I got close (I won’t lie, the timing was completely in my favor), two girls that had been standing together left their positions at the bar. I marched into the open space, stuck my elbows and chest over the bar, and immediately caught the bartender’s attention. “Rum and Diet, please!”
I could hear my co-workers laughing and cheering me on from our table nearby. Hey, if I was able to give an example of the easy way to get a bartender’s attention, I’m glad.
3) Elephants!
I was a little bit over-ridiculously excited to hear that elephants will be marching through the streets of D.C. on St. Patrick’s Day. Their final destination? The Verizon Center! Which is just a few blocks away from where I work. The thought of seeing elephants walking down a city street makes me smile. I know some people hate circuses, but…I guess I just like the thought because it’s something different. How often do you see elephants walking through the streets of a city? I’ll definitely be rounding up some co-workers to skip work for a while to witness the spectacle.
Happy weekend, everyone!

I plead the fifth on this whole post.
Oh, not the first part. That’s cool. Though I’d be bit afraid of anyone with the title “czar.”
This is the only appointment of his I agree with — how cool.
As a Seattle native, I’m excited too! I can’t believe you’ve met him. He’s been in Seattle gov’t for quite a long time.
I love the bar story! Isn’t that so true, though?
I’d be super stoked to see elephants, too. To me, a change in the normal routine (with something entertaining or funny) is always a plus…especially at work. :-)

I don’t think this trick would work for all of us. ;-) Have a good weekend.
So funny about the bar! Gotta love good timing, too ;)
If you got ‘em, use ‘em I say…. :-). Great way to get a drink quickly
I’ve seen an elephant on the streets of Hollywood (Animal House DVD release parade), and it is completely amazing to see them in that context. They are huge!
will we get elephant pics oh Z of tremendous awesomeness?
MizFit: I certainly hope so! I plan to bring my camera to work that day. Hopefully there won’t be so many people lining the streets that they prevent me from getting a few good shots. :)
Enjoy the elephants! And congrats about Kerlikowske. I remember hearing good things about him in Seattle.
Happy weekend !
Really, elephants?
Have an elephantastic time on Tuesday!!
Don’t forget to wear something green! Or go to the dollar store and get some cheap St Patty’s day hats :)
Not only that, but you replaced TWO girls–I’m going to have to pay more attention to that chest in future! Must be stellar! (now I’m getting embarrassed, but YOU brought it up!)
I too went to see the elephants today. It wasn’t terribly exciting but it was different and just nice to get out of the office for a few minutes and witness something strange. :)
