1) Skirts rule!
It’s Friday, and I’m wearing a dress once again. This is only strange because about six weeks ago my workplace started allowing us to wear jeans on Friday. However, I’ve only worn jeans once since then. See, it’s warm outside, and skirts and dresses are much more comfortable in warm weather than encasing your legs in denim. (I will reserve my right to bring out the jeans once the weather cools down later this year, though.)
2) Tonight
I’m going to Wolf Trap tonight to see a play, Pirates of Penzance. I’d never heard of the play before I agreed to go, but a few people I know are going, and I’ve never been to Wolf Trap before, so I’m sure it’ll be fun. The only thing is, it’s supposed to rain today, and we’ll have lawn seating. Someone’s bringing a tarp, and we’ll have blankets to put on top of the tarp, so as long as it’s not pouring down rain I think we’ll be okay. (And if it is pouring down rain, we’ll drown our sorrows in the wine we’re bringing along.)
3) This weekend
My younger sister, Angela, and her fiance John are driving up tomorrow to visit me. I’m actually really, really excited about this. She’s been living in Richmond for about seven years, but hasn’t been to DC since we came with our parents when she was a little kid. Even though I’ve been living in the area for over 2.5 years, this will be the first time she’s been up here to see me.
And I didn’t even have to twist her arm. She called me out of the blue a few days ago and asked if I was busy on Saturday. They want to go to the Zoo, but other than that they’re open to ideas — which basically means, “Zan’s choice.” So I’ll have them park their car at my place in Alexandria, and we’ll take the Metro into the city (I don’t believe either one of them has ever ridden it; I know Angela hasn’t). I have a few things in mind, so I’m sure we’ll be able to fill the hours pretty easily.
Happy weekend, everyone!

Have fun tonight! Jealous of your dress wearing — I am just not comfortable in them.
I was just in Alexandria a couple of weekends ago for the first time. What a nice area! I think we’ll be back sometime this fall, so we can go to the zoo and hit up some of the museums. Oh, and so I can maybe go to Kennedy Center to see Ben Folds! :)
oh, sounds like lots of fun. enjoy!
I’ve always enjoyed parT floW, as we used to call it, but I’ve always gotten tickets inside. It’s nice to go there and picnic ahead of time, but then to have more comfortable seating for the performances.
And “Pirates” is fun, and typical G&S silliness. The “Modern Major General” song is the most famous, but I like “Poor Wand’ring One”, especially as done by Linda Ronstadt.
Post back and tell us how you liked the venue and the show.
you were not allowed to wear jeans till now?..wow man I would have hated such a work place
Prates of Penzance… Makes me think of Pretty Woman and the scene when they go to the opera and Julia R tells this old lady that she nearly peed her pants and Richard G “saves” it by telling the lady that Julia liked it better than Pirates of Penzance… :)
Hope you had a good day with your sister and her fiancé!
How did you like Pirates of Penzance? I saw it forever ago and remember really enjoying it. Can’t be bad too if it was at Wolf Trap!
Wolf Trap is awesome! It’s like a giant tree house.
