Random Friday, Ver. 102

1) Flying away

I bought a plane ticket last night. I’ll be attending the annual BlogHer conference that’s taking place next month in Chicago. The flight is nonstop and cost less than $200, which I thought was a pretty good deal. Even though I registered for the conference earlier this year and agreed to share a hotel room (with the same awesomely-cool lady as last year, Liz from Everyday Goddess), I put off making the final commitment of buying the plane ticket.

I’m not sure why I kept putting it off, since I always end up having a good time at the conference (this will be my third time going). But regardless, I’ve made the commitment to go again this year and I’m sure I’ll meet some super-cool ladies (like I always do) and have a super-fantastic time.

2) So, I see you again…

Last weekend I was at a restaurant in Alexandria and I saw a guy that I went on a date with last year. That may not seem strange, but it was the first time I’ve come across a guy that I’ve previously been on a date with (I just went out with him one time, mind you). It actually took me a few minutes to place his face. I was sitting with someone else in the bar area, and he was sitting with a woman about 15 feet away. I could tell he was staring at me, and he looked slightly familiar…I thought at first he might be a friend-of-a-friend. (Obviously he hadn’t made much of an impression on me.)

Last year, he and I went to the National Museum of American History, and then we stopped to get coffee at Borders on our way home. I didn’t have a great time at the museum and already had it in my mind that I wasn’t going to see him again. He clinched that thought when we took a loop around the store and he started picking up random sex-related books and calling my attention to them: “Hey, look at this.” It happened at least three times, no lie.

So I didn’t call him after that, and to his credit, he didn’t call me again, either. Such an interesting experience, this dating thing…

3) This weekend

I have a few social events on the calendar, but I also need to find time for some personal introspection — I’m not exactly sure how that’s going to play out yet, though. I keep thinking of that line from Beck’s song, Loser: “Things are gonna change, I can feel it.”

But how?

  1. Hope you find some quiet space and time this weekend!

What change is necessary should then pop up easily.

Or at 4am when you have to pee.. that also works.

  2. Re: Roomie being recognized in the bar or not. It’s almost certainly because you are blond and, I’m assuming, she is not.

  4. Funny! I had a similar experience of running into a guy that I had gone out with only once just two days ago! He was at a show that I was at. He kept staring at me. It was kind of surreal.
