I’m curious, how much does a reasonable sized studio go for in DC? At least you don’t pay New York rent for an apartment you can hardly swing your arms in :I

I would stay away from studios as well.

I’ve lived in my current place in Arlington now for almost three and a half years and really like it. In fact, this is the longest I’ve lived in any one place since I grew up and left home all those years ago.

Right now I’m in the process of looking to buy and one of the areas I’m looking at is downtown. Not exactly sure where yet, only been looking for a short while, but I think it could be fun to live in the city. The funny thing is that if I do I’ll actually be extending my commute, but the truth is while I can afford to rent in Virginia, I don’t think I can afford to buy here.

I’m really excited for you! Moving itself isn’t always fun, but I like going new places. I’ve never lived in a big city, but I’d love to have that experience — living right in downtown Ann Arbor was super awesome for me, as I was always right in the thick of things. I found that I spent even more time walking there (hard to park the car and easier to just hoof it). I know you use the car to get to Richmond, but you might find you don’t have much other use for it.
