I was in Europe for two weeks (Wed, 28 April through Wed, 12 May). Click on the city names to view all the photos in the Flickr collection.
Utrecht, Netherlands

The Hague, Netherlands. These are my lovely Dutch friends.

Berlin, Germany. A girl watching a street festival.

Prague, Czech Republic

Vienna, Austria. (This duck almost attacked me right after this photo was taken. I got up quickly.)

Budapest, Hungary

In closing…I had a lot of fun!
I’m flying out tonight for my two-week trip to Europe. I’m spending the first few days with some friends in the Netherlands, then I’ll be in Berlin, Prague, Vienna, and Budapest. I have a nervous/excited fluttering in my stomach, but I know I’ll be fine. I’ve been looking forward to this trip for a long time.
Last week I spent time in Idaho, Montana, and Wyoming. I didn’t write a single blog post (I was taking a break from writing for BlogHer, too), but I did update Twitter regularly.
Over the course of the six days I spent in those three states, I did a lot of relaxing, driving, and sightseeing. It was the first time I’d taken an entire week off work since I started at my current job over two years ago. I needed the break.
The view from Aunt Cathy & Uncle Jeff’s backyard in Salmon, Idaho.

This swing was my favorite place to sit in the backyard…

…and it looked out over the Salmon River.

It was a great place for contemplation.

Proof that I was in Idaho (with Aunt Cathy).

Proof that I was in Montana (with Kylee, the daughter of one of Cathy’s good friends).

These were taken in Yellowstone National Park (Wyoming).

The feeling hit me hard a few days ago. You know, the “I need to go somewhere” feeling. I’ve had it in my mind for several months that I need to plan a trip, but it wasn’t at the forefront. Now it is. Now, suddenly, it seems imperative that I go. I need to make a decision and start putting it together.
(When I say “It’s time to take a trip,” what I really mean is “It’s time to go outside the U.S.” I haven’t been outside the country since I got back from Amsterdam at the end of December 2004. I just passed the four-year mark! This is completely unacceptable!)
I have almost two weeks of vacation time left over from 2008 that I didn’t use, on top of the three weeks I’ll be accruing this year. (I tend not to take random days off here and there. I’d rather save them up and go somewhere…away.)
I did take three trips last year where I traveled via airplane (Tampa, San Francisco, and Las Vegas), but all of them included a weekend and I only had to take a few days off from work each time.
Now, look. I know. Everybody wants a freakin’ vacation! It’s January! The skies are dismal and the temps are low. I get it. But still, I’m going somewhere. I have a few places in mind, but I haven’t decided anything for certain yet. At this point I don’t know if I’ll be traveling alone, or with someone else, or meeting someone once I reach my destination. But it will happen.
