Weekend Recap: Feeling Re-Energized

The past few days have been really good. Some highlights:

Saturday afternoon: I decided I wanted a new dress to wear when I went out that night. My friend Mary and I scoured some shops in Old Town Alexandria (including a few consignment shops I’d never visited before). We were out for a few hours and hadn’t found anything; I was about to give up. At the last minute I decided to check out Ross. I grabbed a few dresses off the rack and ended up trying one on that was really cute. Not only that, it was $20 — and looked much better on me than the $150 dress I’d just rejected as not-quite-right from Banana Republic.

Saturday night: I had dinner at Posh, and then drinks at Jaleo. I’d never been to either place before that night. I really enjoyed the food at Posh — the star of the night ended up being the Hurricane Shrimp appetizer (I tried to find a description on their online menu, but it’s not currently listed). And I liked Jaleo because it’s located on a street corner in Chinatown; the walls to the outside are completely glassed-in so there’s a great view of what’s happening on the street.

Sunday: went to a St. Patrick’s Day party in D.C. with Zipcode. Ate corned beef and cabbage and had a few drinks (no green beer, though). She was able to talk me into wearing this clover-on-a-spring thing long enough to snap a photo:

Weekend Recap: Musical, Adult Entertainment, Hiking

1) Musical

On Saturday, my friend Mary and I went to a musical/dance performance called Cool Papa’s Party at MetroStage in Old Town Alexandria. It was a fun show (choreographed by Broadway choreographer Maurice Hines, brother of the late Gregory Hines).

2) Adult Entertainment

After the show, Mary and I went to check out the new adult entertainment store on King Street, LeTache (the one I mentioned hearing about only after it became controversial). Interesting: most of the employees are male, which seemed a little…different. They were nice though, and one guy spent a fair amount of time answering Mary’s inquiries about the various products they offer.

(Thu-Sat, they’re open 10am-midnight. Those are pretty crazy hours, especially since most of the other non-restaurant establishments on King Street tend to close down 4-5 hours earlier than that.)

I bought a few things, one of which was a pair of fishnet stockings. It wasn’t the small weave like I normally get (the kind that’s appropriate to wear to work), but the larger, more “obvious” weave. I went home and put them on with a black dress before we went out to dinner, and Mary and I were laughing about all the second-glances my legs were getting.

At one point Mary and I were standing on a street corner waiting for another friend to arrive. Because there were a few cops standing diagonally across the street from us and Mary seemed to think I looked like a prostitute, after a few minutes she convinced me to move farther away from the corner — it did take her several tries, though. (What, like I was going to get arrested just by standing there?)

3) Hiking

Yesterday afternoon I drove out to Great Falls. I’d been out there in May of ’07 when my Dutch friends came for a visit, but it was nice being able to see it again. Per the recommendation of Jeff from Alexandria, I parked at Riverbend Park and hiked the trail from there to the falls (a little less than two miles one way). This allowed me to avoid the $5 parking fee at the main entrance and I was able to walk around like I wanted to do, too.

I didn’t carry my camera, so here’s a photo of Great Falls taken in May ’07. Good thing it still looks the same!
